Cottage Dreams launches new online fundraising program that helps cottage visitors say thanks and give back at the same time
The Ripple Effect urges Ontarians to give a gift and start a ripple
Haliburton, Ontario, June 25, 2007 – Just in time for cottage season, Cottage Dreams Cancer Recovery Initiative, a charity that matches cottage owners who share their cottages with recent cancer survivors, has launched a unique online fundraising program.
The Ripple Effect allows people to donate to Cottage Dreams in lieu of bringing a hostess gift as a thank you for a weekend at the cottage. Simply visit the charity’s web site at www.cottagedreams.org, select a gift amount and, with a couple of clicks, create a personal gift card that informs your hosts that a contribution has been made in their name to this great, cottage-related cause.
“There couldn’t be a better time to launch a program like this than during the summer when so many people receive invitations to come up to the cottage,” says Seana O’Neill, president and founder of Cottage Dreams. “This takes the worry out of finding the perfect gift and is sure to be a hit with hosts who don’t need another tchotchke for the cottage.”
The Ripple Effect name was chosen because it represents what happens at Cottage Dreams every day. Through the support of generous donors and sponsors, the organization arranges for recent cancer survivors and their families to spend time away together to celebrate their cancer recovery at private, donated cottages.
For as little as $25.00, anyone can start a Ripple. Of course, this program isn’t limited to hostess gifts. The ease and convenience of the program, coupled with the fact that people are looking for more meaningful gifts, makes The Ripple Effect a wonderful choice for birthdays, anniversaries, weddings, memorials and key milestones.
“It’s hugely satisfying to participate in a program that helps cancer survivors recoup and experience time at our cottage…a place we like to think of as a piece of heaven on earth,” says Joy Levine, a cottager who donates time at her cottage each year to Cottage Dreams. “This summer, I will encourage all of my cottage guests to pay a visit to www.cottagedreams.org before they visit us.”

I had not heard of Cottage Dreams before, but I will certainly be clicking on their website next. I recently purchased and renovated a cottage with my aunt, who lost her husband to cancer just a few years ago. Providing our cottage in support of cancer survivors would be extremely rewarding and a great way to pay tribute to my uncle.
Our family was gifted a cottage placement through this wonderful Cottage Dreams program. Our 13 year old son is a cancer patient. We had the most wonderful time! It truly was a time for healing, a positive time with just the four of us to make many, many lasting and happy memories.
Thank you Cottage Dreams and all of the wonderful people who help run your programs.
